Over the river and through the woods...

Just out of curiosity, have you ever written a post that for some reason always gets more looks every day than anything else you've written? I have one of those. I don't think it's anything special. It was just a recounting of an annoying experience concerning a flat tire. What happened to me was not anything that hasn't happened to anyone else when trying to deal with a business that doesn't have their act quite together. It was annoying and expensive and I ranted about it. It happened in 2012. It never got any more comments than the initial ones, but always gets the most looks. Why? I don't know.

      ***BONEHEAD ALERT***BONEHEAD ALERT***

First of all I want to say that the bonehead wasn't me. This is not to say that I haven't had bouts with boneheadism. There was a leak from the drain under the big sink at work. The plumber came and all was fixed. One of my co-workers went to use the sink and discovered that the water was turned off. He managed to get the hot water on but he couldn't get was the cold water to work when he opened the faucet. He was confused. The rest of us (2), looked under the sink and saw two valves,  presumably for hot and cold.

For some reason, we'll call him "Mr. Bonehead", did not turn the cold water on then couldn't understand why there was no cold water.  He was totally unaware of something, very obvious. Sometimes, something inside of us, flicks the "duh" switch. This quickly became snicker material. This man is married with children, and owns a house, so when he couldn't figure out that that the two valves under the sink, and the two faucets on the sink were related, it told us he was approaching "Maximum Duh!"
Hey we milked the episode all afternoon. It gave us much material to bust his chops with. Nothing really vicious but a few good laughs. Who hasn't gone "duh" now and then.

Oy do I have a lot of pictures! I have been better organizing them for months now.  Still I don't mind looking pictures from the last ten years.
Here's my hometown, the Mystic River, which flows to the harbor, on March 1, 2007.

The white house in the background with the columns, is the "Grandfathers House" in the Thanksgiving poem "Over the river and through the woods..." I walked by it to go to high school for 3 years not even knowing that. Not that knowing that gave you the secrets of life. On the other side of the river is a small concert shell with the poem on it and small blurb about the author.

So as we head towards Christmas it looks like we will top 60 degrees around here. Last year we were close to this temperature then all the snow came. Nobody wants a repeat of last year. It's seasonably cold today but will shoot up quickly in the coming days. I'm already thinking Spring. Quite premature as we are not into January yet.

I got this from Facebook and it cracked me up.

Alrighty it's getting late in the morning and I have to do a bit of food shopping to do. Then there is the Patriots game at one o'clock, the team everybody in the U.S. loves to hate. If I don't make it back here before the holiday, everybody have a wonderful holiday.
I'm outta here.

  1. FYI.....Christmas Cookie Rules...

    1. If you eat a Christmas cookie fresh out of the oven, it has no calories because everyone knows that the first cookie is the test and thus calorie free.

    2. If you drink a diet soda after eating your second cookie, it also has no calories because the diet soda cancels out the cookie calories.

    3. If a friend comes over while you're making your Christmas cookies and needs to sample, you must sample with your friend. Because your friend's first cookie is calories free, (rule #1) yours is also. It would be rude to let your friend sample alone and, being the friend that you are, that makes your cookie calorie free.

    4. Any cookie calories consumed while walking around will fall to your feet and eventually fall off as you move. This is due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.

    5. Any calories consumed during the frosting of the Christmas cookies will be used up because it takes many calories to lick excess frosting from a knife without cutting your tongue.

    6. Cookies colored red or green have very few calories. Red ones have three and green ones have five - one calorie for each letter. Make more red ones!

    7. Cookies eaten while watching "Miracle on 34th Street" have no calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel.

    8. As always, cookie pieces contain no calories because the process of breaking causes calorie leakage.

    9. Any cookies consumed from someone else's plate have no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to their plate. We all know how calories like to CLING!

    10. Any cookies consumed while feeling stressed have no calories because cookies used for medicinal purposes NEVER have calories. It's a rule!

So, go out and enjoy those Christmas Cookies - we only get them this time of year!

  3. Boston Boy, My husband just told me that farm noise joke last week. LOL. I loved seeing your pictures. The poem made me think of the old song we sang in school about"over the river and thru the woods" I only lived a short ways from my mother when I raised my daughters. When we would go to Mommy's on Thanksgiving the girls would sing" Down the street and across the tracks to grandma's house we go." What fun. Paul, I want to wish you and your loved ones and friends a very merry Christmas and a new year of peace and good health, xoxo,Susie
